For a long time, the passengers of the Indian Railways have been demanding a feature to tranfer tickets to someone else.

Many a time it so happens that we book a train ticket but due to some unforseen circumstances, we are unable to travel on that day.

However, someone else, whom we know, might be wishing to travel on the same day but doesnt have a booked ticket.

In such a situation, the ability to transfer one's ticket to another really comes handy.

But Indian Railways didn't really have such a feature officially....yet!

Now Transfer your Train Tickets

According to sources, Indian Railways has now brought about this new feature to transfer train tickets to other people.

If you are holding a confirmed train ticket and are unable to travel on that day, then you can transfer the ticket to your family members or any other person.
For this, some rules and procedures have been shared.

So clearly go through these to understand how this process will work.

How to Transfer train tickets

  • If the passenger is a Government servant going on duty, the appropriate authority can make a request to transfer the ticket.

  • A regular passenger would have to make a request in writing 24 hours before the scheduled departure to transfer the ticket to his/her family member's name.

  • If passenger is a student of a recognized educational institution, then the head of the institution can make the request in writing for ticket traansers 48 hours before scheduled departure of the train.

  • Passengers of a marriage group can also get their tickets transferred. For this the head of the group will need to give a request in writing 48 hours before departure.

  • Passengers NCC group can also get a ticket transferred from one cadet to another. For this the head of the group needs to give in writing 24 hours before departure.

Indian Railways has also stated that this request will be accepted once per ticket. In case of students, marriage group or NCC group, request for change in excess of 10% of the total members will not be allowed.

These rules have been put together in order to prevent any misuse of this rule. Otherwise agents would book all tickets and then start selling them.
Hopefull, this new feature will be beneficial to travellerss and will improve more as time goes on.
