The Indian Railways has introduced a new set of rules for online booking of train tickets - both Tatkal and Non-Tatkal.

These new rules are aimed to strengthen the online ticketing process of the Indian Railways. It also aims to bring greater transparency in all the transactions involved in the booking of the ticket.

To enhance the ticket booking process and smoothen out all the transactions, the government has taken some new and much-needed steps.

Earlier people could not book tickets due to a huge amount of traffic on the IRCTC website, making it slower and losing the track. But now various time caps and booking limits will improve the speed and streamline the process.

The Updated Rules

  • Now, only 6 tickets can be booked in a month from one user id. This number gets extended to 12 if Aadhaar id is verified.

  • A user can have only one active login from one id at one point of time, be it incognito window or another browser tab.

  • When the advance booking ticket window opens from 8 AM to 10 AM, one can book a maximum of two tickets.

  • The quick booking facility will not be available at 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM time slot.

  • For security measures apart from CAPTCHA, other questions will also be asked, like mobile number, user-name, e-mail.

  • To fill up all the commuter details, only 25 seconds of time will be given, irrespective of the number of passengers you are booking. So from now on, people will have to be quick to fill their details.

  • Similarly, 10 seconds will be given to carry out the payment.

  • Ticket agents are not allowed to book tickets from 08:00 AM to 08:30 AM, 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM and 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Also, Aadhaar Card is mandatory for agents’ registration.

  • The refund of fare will be made after deducting the clerkage.
