Is Indian media too harsh on The movie Sanju?

Ever since the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanju has released in India, it has been the talk of the town for both good and bad reasons.

The Rajkumar Hirani directed movie has been receiving accolades from both the film fraternity, as well as, the movie-going audience and has raced to 200+ crores box office collections in just a week.

Even major movie critics have given the movie a thumbs up.

But there is one section of the audience, that seems hell-bent on degrading the movie, and the performances of the leading actors.

And that's the media!

Media against Sanju?

Since the release of the Sanju, the movie has faced a severe backlash from major media houses and news websites.

I have personally come across many such articles, news presentations, and still do almost daily.

Most of them look like a deliberate attempt to malign the film. To show it in a bad light. The points covered by these articles and news presentations make me wonder if this is a proper review or a revenge article.

Revenge article?

You may be wondering why I have used such a strong term.

Why would the media houses and news websites write such an article against a Bollywood movie?

What could a news website possibly gain from it?

The questions are definitely genuine, and the answer to them equally intriguing.

But before I give the answer, a disclaimer. There is a spoiler ahead. So if you haven't watched the movie yet, and don't wanna spoil your excitement, better stop reading now.

With that out of the way... Let's discuss the answer.

The Truth

If you have seen the movie Sanju, you may have realized that it portrays Sanjay Dutt as innocent and being a victim of media self-judgment.

The movie comes hard on the media houses for not giving Sanjay Dutt a fair chance to bring forth his side of the story.

Now, I am not taking anyone's side or saying one is correct and the other is not. We are regular people without the real information. So it's unfair to judge anyone right or wrong.

But the media seems to have taken this negative portrayal personal, and is hell-bent on degrading the movie to show its protest.

India is a democracy, and in a democracy everyone has the right to speak.

But I personally feel, media could have protested in a better way. They have a responsibility to present the right news to the people.

Why indulge in movie shaming articles just because it shows you in a bad light. You are still bound by your duty to deliver the right news to your audience.

A doctor doesn't stop performing his duties if a patient misbehaves because he is bound by the oath to protect the lives of the people.

If they can do it, Then why can't you?

The media may have been right, but they haven't shown their protest well!

But then, it didn't really affect the film much. It received the love from the audience and is still going strong.
